Ah, For a Simpler Time!

This blog post was written a few years ago, but the sentiments remain the same. It’s a gorgeous day in TN, so enjoy this little post and do some picnicking or novel reading today.

It’s happening again…

I’m pinning Regency era empire waist gowns on Pinterest. I’m listening to classical music. I’m sitting on a bench in one of the rare gardens in NYC and sighing. I’m itching to paint. I’m reading Austenland.

and I’m longing to be Lizzy Bennett, or Emma, or Jane, or even Fanny Price. Again.

The Pope’s Coming to My Wedding!

Pope Francis waves to crowds as he arrives to his inauguration mass on 19 March 2013.

Just kidding. But Pope Francis WILL be visiting NYC the day before my wedding, which is both AMAZING and super inconvenient. It’s really difficult to get a hotel block for your wedding when the Pope is in town. THANKS, POPE FRANCIS!

Thankfully, the wonderful people at Kleinfield are helping me to reserve room blocks around the city for our many out of town guests. Kleinfield has a truly amazing FREE service for “finding and booking hotel rooms Continue reading

Sunday, Fun Day!

Man oh man, have the last few weeks been busy!

Last weekend I was a seat filler at the Tony Awards, which was AH-MAZING. It was so much fun to dress up and I sat in some really good seats (always in the first 10 rows, most of them aisle seats). Over the course of the evening, I sat in Taylor Schilling’s seat (Orange is the New Black), behind Christian Borle (Something Rotten!), and near Christopher Wheeldon (choreo: An American in Paris); I took a pic for and shook the hand of Tony winner Annaleigh Ashford (You Can’t Take it With You); and saw Bernadette Peters in person (a dream come true!). Here are some pics from the evening:

Feeling glamorous!

Then this past Sunday, my fiance and I went to the 10th Annual Jazz Age Lawn Party on Governor’s Island! This is one of my favorite summer events in NYC. Thousands of people flock to Governor’s Island to listen to live 1920s style music by Michael Arenella and his Dreamland Orchestra, dance, eat, and most of all to admire everyone’s 1920s costumes and vintage dresses! This year I did more lounging than dancing, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself. It was the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Don’t worry if you missed this event! They’re holding it again on August 15th & 16th! Buy your tickets now as they sell out fast!

NYC Summer Lovin’

Y’all, I love summer in NYC. There are so many free events and classes and movies and dances outside in the many, many parks of the city. It may be hot and we may all be dying of heat exhaustion in our non-air conditioned apartments, but that’s okay because we’re going to spend most of our time outside attending awesome, FREE events.

So let the planning begin! Jazz Age Lawn Party! Dancing in Bryant Park! Bryant Park FitClub! Movies at Bryant Park! Midsummer Night Swing! MetOpera Summer in HD Festival! Central Park Film Festival! ETC, ETC!!!!

Change in Season

Things are finally starting to come together. It’s a new season, both literally and figuratively. As the air cools and the leaves start to change colors, I am applying to jobs, working on a personal website, and enjoying the friendships I have in NYC.

A few weeks ago I took a contemporary dance class for the first time in years. It was AMAZING! Sure, I felt stiff and awkward and generally out of shape, but I left feeling inspired and sore in a good way. Dancing makes me feel more alive. I seriously can’t wait until the next class!!

Then, this past weekend, I got to go to the New York City Ballet and see a program of pieces composed or arranged by Stravinsky and choreographed by Balanchine. A few of the pieces were very odd: Continue reading
