Simple Ways to De-Stress: Plant edition

This morning, Verily Magazine posted an article on Simple Ways to De-Stress at Your Desk. They offered some good advice on deep-breathing, sitting up straight, walking around, etc. but there’s one thing they left out that I think is very important:

#8 SURROUND YOURSELF WITH PLANTS

Plants produce oxygen, which is essential to human life.

Plants don’t ask you stupid questions.

You can complain all you like to plants and they’ll just be happy that you’re providing them with CO2.

Plants don’t judge you for eating an entire bag of M&Ms in an hour.

Create the feeling of working in a garden – one of the most peaceful environments I can think of.

My desk buddy, Jean Claude.

#8a Stare at your plant(s) when you can’t bear looking at yet another Excel sheet

It’ll give your poor eyes a break. And plants are little divas that crave your attention, but in a subtle, humble way.

#8b Water and/or fertilize your plant(s)

This will give you a sense of accomplishment, even when things are going horribly wrong in the office.

#8c Give someone a plant!

Spread the joy of owning a plant to others! Fill the world with smiles and sunshine!

Flowers from my fiance. Though these flowers may fade, our love never shall.
